Server Status

Post by FN »

So here's where I am with the server at the moment:

I went up to the datacenter and cracked open the server. The harddrives were hot as hell. I rsynched a working copy of the server onto a temporary drive and set that up, no mirroring support, on the machine. I also ghetto rigged some fans in the case to increase the airflow. When I can, I'll be going back up with two new drives and setting up the RAID array again with some much increased cooling. Also, the server currently has 3x256mb sticks of PC2100 RAM in it. The machine is constantly using all of it, and I believe the over-usage of the Swap file, coupled with the fact that the Swap file was mirrored (thanks Lev ;) <3) - caused the drives to be overworked. So when I can amass 3x512mb sticks and a second 100GB harddrive (got one thanks to Dist), the server will be restored to 100% Working Condition instead of the "band-aid" status it is in now.

Server Status - Part II

I've setup everything I had backed up on another machine. It's secretly running here at work until I get another machine up and running. It looks like the drive that I thought would make it for awhile up in Rochester... didn't.

I'd like to put the whole thing on a $499 Mac Mini with a RAM Upgrade. One can dream, right? :P

Hopefully the site will be up and stable for the next month or so until I can figure something else out.
