Perpetuum
Perpetuum came out a little while ago and I've been playing it for a couple of days and its pretty good.
The game has a lot of things in common with EVE, among others a time based levelling system. The difference being that where eve has you pick a list of skills to train Perpetuum instead gives you a skill point for every minute your account is active, regardless of you online status, which can then be spent on skills at your leisure.
There is a great culture of PVP in the game, including something akin to OP wars. The various starting areas are of course safe but everywhere else its open season and half a players equipped gear will drop as loot.
Its all still a little rough around the edges but things are moving along nicely and what features are in the game works perfectly, the developers seem to be rather perfectionist.

Re: Perpetuum
Looks interesting. I know ray looked at it in OpenBeta.
I'd be interested to know what the PvP is really like - how long is an average fight? Are they typically 1v1? What are the goals of the game? Own territory?

Re: Perpetuum
The game is still in its early stages, so PVP hasn't reached it full potential yet. But currently it seems to be akin to Neocrons wasteland, you fight over various outposts or you just mow down whoever you happen to run into. There are a lot of riches to be had in the open pvp area's so there will be industrialists trying to mine out there and potentially clan mates escorting them so there's the making of a little piracy aswell.
I haven't really played long enough to give much insight into the particular aspect of the game though.

Looks interesting. I bought myself a new PC finally and I'll be running Windows again so maybe I'll give this a try.

Re: Perpetuum
One of the more amazing things I've experienced so far is seeing both GM's and developers engaging in the global chat. It's got the same close community culture that we got in Neocron but with a development team that actually seems rather competent and engaged with the community.

This game is basically Eve with robots.
Same game play (only in 2 dimensions instead of 3)

Re: Perpetuum
Am I correct in understanding that there is no cost for the game/client, just a subscription?
i.e. it'd be $9.95 to try it out for a month?

Yes, the actual client is completely free and there is currently even a discount on the subscription.FN wrote:Am I correct in understanding that there is no cost for the game/client, just a subscription?

And don't be afraid to mess about with your first character, within the first 45 days of play you can reset your account and get all of your skill points back to start fresh from square one.

I agree with Iceborg. I would like to try it out before deciding if it's worth subscribing to.

When I searched the forums on Perpetuum I found this http://forums.perpetuum-online.com/topi ... ial-codes/
Seems like a person playing(paying I guess) the game has to write there and then we others can try the game for 15 days.
Could u please do that?

Done, asked for 5 codes to start off with.
Edit: Found that I already have a 15 day buddy code, who wants it?
