Wouldn't say that, Dead Island plays more like an RPG than a zombie shooter. Its got more in common with Dead Rising actually, except there are fewer zombies around.

Indeed, it's more open than L4D.

dead Island has it's issues, but it's great fun to play in co-op. Once you get over some of the blatant fuck ups the devs did, for example: No way to disable VOIP ingame, none at all. Everyone transmits 100% of the time unless you disable your mic in windows or change the default device etc.

But the game itself is fun :). I only paid $32 for it using the sale at greenmangaming 3days before it came out :D

Annoyingly, DI isn't the only game that's doing this. Warhammer 40k Space Marine crams VOIP down your throat as well, but at least they allow you to mute people. But it is amazingly annoying to have to start every match by muting the entire fucking team one at a time.

Yea, this is why I've set my secondary input to default communication device then just told TS/Ventrilo to use my mic since you can customise those apps :)

Id say its definitely worth buying, its not like l4d its just... epic, you'd think that you'd get bored of smashing up zombies eventually but you never do. Main difference is dead island is all about melee, sure guns are good for human bandits but zombies take such low damage your better off with melee to smash their skulls in!

If you play the gun character you can get reasonable damage, but you'd be better off being Logan for ranged damage.

Guns are fun, but it's all about the melee tbh.
