Here ya go black :)

Portables havn't caught up in the madness yet, buy them and rip the drives out.

Portables sadly tend to be slower drives (not always of course). There is not a lot of ways to find out what you are getting till you crack the case. :\ Luckily for me and for now till I fill my 2Tb, I managed to get a 2Tb and two 1Tb a few months back. Thank god too or I'd be in the same boat OP.

Keep an eye out on that website.

As for them being slower, yes portables are sometimes 5200rpm. But most of the ones made recently are not, due to the silly low HDD prices past few years they've been using regular old drives.
Quick google before you buy to find what HDD's they use and you're sorted.

BP, go to your local Curry's/PCWorld they have 1.5TB drives in for £65 currently (portables) but there 3.5" 7,200rpm drives :)

The NAS is a nice find

Code: Select all

TCP/IP
CIFS/SMB, NFS (for Linux/Unix)
FTP, HTTP
DHCP client
PPPoE
Network Time Protocol (NTP)
Network setting
DyDNS support

Network applications

Gigabit jumbo frame support up to 9K bytes
UPnP AV server
Print server support (CIFS)
iTunes server support
SqueezeCenter support
Samba/FTP server support
Photo album server
phpMyAdmin/MySQL/PHP
Support eMule/BitTorrent/FTP/HTTP downloads
One-click hosting sites download manager
Auto-upload newly-added files to FTP servers, Flickr and YouTube
There's also http://speedcap.net/img/Sam86/c8bdfc5.png

I know the WD external drives normally use decent internal drives. But, for an extra £10 why not have a NAS, infact I want a NAS. The HDD is a decent speed drive as well.
