Biking!

Post by NoNo »

Just wondering if any of our other illustrious board visitors drive a Motorcycle!
I was on one until I trashed it about 6 months ago (used to be Suzuki VStrom DL650), currently migrating to a Triumph Sprint GT 1100 :)

I always wanted a bike since I was about 18-19. But frankly I was too fat to not look a tosser on one.

But, I've recently lost nearly 50lbs. Once I hit my goal of 100lbs I'm going to buy this, or something similar:

It's only a 125CC Daystar Classic. But in England you need to learn on a 125CC bike before taking your bike license. I've already a standard license (for 4 wheeled vehicles up to and including 7.5tonn).

So grab one of these for a few months then take my test is my plan.

Ach yea we have the same thing over here. The rule over here is that your restricted to riding a bike with a power to weight ration of 3:1 or something like that. So I basically got a restricted 650 Suzuki VStrom as my first bike to get around it.

I passed my restriction there about a year ago so dying to get onto a full powered beasty which will hopefully happen soon :D

Yep. Suzuki VStrom DL650.
Restrictor kit (basically a different ecu to the stock one), limits the power output, and the ratio it gives with the restrictor kit on it brings it below or onto the legal limit :)

Next bikes going to be a 1050cc Triumph Sprint GT hopefully, if I can pluck the funds from somewhere.

Oh I see, a lot of the 125cc and even 50cc scooter type bikes here have those kits on them.

But you can remove the kits as long as you keep the bike under 125CC and under a certain HP. Plus that DayStar Classic is an EU import so it won't have a limiter. Bit pricey for a 125cc training bike, but I'm still fairly big (wide;)) so I don't exactly want a bicycle looking thing. The 125CC Scooters that 16 years old can buy tend to have them, they limit speed to about 50-60mph. Which isn't that bad considering you're not allowed on moterways as a learner (Highway) and the main roads have a 60mph speed limit anyway.

Not that people stick to 60 ;)

Moped's/scooters have gotta be on of the most dangerous things on the roads. The old addage that "smaller is safer" when it comes to bikes is completely so far beyond the truth.
People think that because its smaller and slower that its inherently safer, however they are going to prove to be more dangerous, you are more likely to take risks, not wear some armour, its just ridiculous. Also add to that the fact that they are hair dryers on wheels :)

125 dragstar is a decent bike, most of the time a 125 will do you perfectly unless you get onto a motorway but sure who wants to do that anyway :D

I don't own a bike yet, it's my item to buy once I hit my goal weight :)

But I'm not very mechanically savy so doubt I'd strip the bike, but I guess I'd fit into Rocker more than Mod subculture. Considering I like those style of old school bikes. I love the look of bikes like the Suzuki Marauder etc.
