[Movie] Good for Nothing

Inspired by Sergio Leonie's Spaghetti Westerns, first-time director Mike Wallis and his fiancé, actress Inge Rademeyer decided against the ‘sensible’ decision to buy a house, instead choosing to self-fund and produce a movie dubbed the world's first 'Pavlova Western' - shot entirely in New Zealand.
Five years in the making, with a large helping hand from friends and family (and a serious delay in the wedding) Wallis and Rademeyer have successfully emerged with their debut – a feature film that will have a theatrical release in North America in early 2012 (it’s considered New Zealand’s first self funded feature film to achieve a theatrical release in the US) followed by releases in other territories around the world.
Fresh from sold out screenings at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival The Hollywood Reporter praises Mike’s work in Good for Nothing: “Imagine a Kiwi Spaghetti Western filtered through the offbeat sensibilities of early Sam Raimi or the Coen brothers”.

One of the principal glories of the film is the score by John Psathas, in which genuine sweep and poetry are combined with affectionate send-ups of Ennio Morricone. It would be a major achievement for an experienced film composer; as a first film score, it’s little short of astonishing. — Jim Svejda, Classical KUSC (Los Angeles)
