Aye, I bought Prototype 2 when it came out on the PC as well but I wasn't in a gaming mood that month or 4. I have a fair few games half played from that period, Max Payne 3 etc.
But Prototype is a great game, it's just a "Let's give you insane super powers and go slaughter an entire city!" kinda game. Reasonable story with some nice silly overpowered gameplay. It reminded me a bit of Just Cause 2, I played them both at the same time so might be why. It's not as sandbox or as good as JC2 though.
Re: Prototype
Prototype belongs on the "tpb" list.

And this is why such amazing companies are going bankrupt, such as THQ
Honestly if you don't think a games worth it at 50-80% off in steam then you really shouldn't even want to play it.

Then don't tpb it? Saying the 'tpb' list implies you are going to play it.Vane wrote:I don't want to play prototype. or darksiders. or god of war. or assassin's creed. That gameplay style is snores
Also, how is darksiders 1 or prototype anything to do with each other? Those 2 games are nothing a like, 1 is a weird side scrolling zelda puzzle mashup and one is a superhero sandbox.

Re: Prototype
Tbp is banned on most of the isps here in UK by order of the government, although theres other torrent sites, pirate bay was great, dont tend to rip off games just microsoft OS' and adobe's expensive ass software namely photoshop
Re: Prototype
Install a linux distro of your choice and use gimp. Not the same as photoshop and does not do all the same things as well but does do some things better. Problem solved on the OS front and photo editing front. You need M$ for games a lot I know, but seeing as most buy rigs that come with it anyway, I see no reason to dl it. Buy one full version if you build your rig - Win 8 changed the license for system builders back to the older one so you can get an OEM copy (M$ discount can be nice if you know someone working there) every 5-10 years, and you are set. That is not expensive. MACOS is expensive (and bleh anyway really). If you can build a gaming rig, you can buy an OS though admittedly I have always bought OEM or through a friend at M$ and their store. Oh, and used copies can be had of the Adobe suites if you look for them and are happy with a version 1 to 2 back or student discount if you are a student.
As for games, people ripping them off is one reason some companies have gone nuts on drm . . . which, yes, I realize drives some to rip them off to avoid it. Vicious circle. Not supporting them by buying them though, especially on sale and great ones, is rubbish imho. Yeah, some publishers are just evil empire, but the developers pay the price more than the publisher. Ripping off games is shooting yourself in the foot long term.
If funds are tight, do what I do and wait for the Steam (or gog.com) sales that happen all the time with a wishlist or the big holiday sales which happen I think 4 or so times per year. Sure, you have to wait, but it is worth it if funds are tight. I often wait a year or more for games so they not only hit a 75% off sale but have fallen to $19.99 too before the sale, like Prototype here. I only pay full retail release price for a few games from a very few developers to support them and because I do want them at release versus 1-2 years after.
Hell, I've bought a few steam games on sale just so I would not have to use my disk to install and play (i.e. I actually own two copies of the game). Those I only ever pay $2.49-4.99 for though, once even less.

Re: Prototype
You don't need Linux to use Gimp, it is open-source and has been ported for Windows and Mac.
Gimp for Windows (click "Show other downloads" on that page for MAC and Unix/Linux versions).
I Switched to Gimp from cracked Photoshop years ago.

Re: Prototype
Yes, I know and should have mentioned that, sorry. I was putting the OS and Photoshop needs on the same "free" options combined since they were mentioned in the same sentence previously.a4nic8er wrote:You don't need Linux to use Gimp, it is open-source and has been ported for Windows and Mac.

Re: Prototype
played em both and they aint to bad, the story isn't exactly astounding and the AI could be better *if it was programmed by a slug crawling across the keyboard for example* but its fun running around the city smashing things and killing folks with the powers. Basically its worth buying for cheap but I wouldn't pay more than the amount you said for it
