Solids PC upgrade adventure

Post by Solid Rock »

I fianlly summoned the courage and financial cohones to get new hardware for my comp. And ofcourse i had to make sure im set for the next couple of years out :P.

* AMD Athlon64 X2 6000+, 3.0 Ghz Dual Core.
* ALIVESATA2-GLAN, Motherboard.
* GeForce 8800GTS, 640MB GDDR3, Dual DVI.

And ofcourse a 650 watt PSU to run the whole thing.

The onboard GFX in the new motherboard is acually as powerfull as the one i have in now.

That sounds mighty tasty and mighty expensive, how much did all that cost?

I took me 3 dayes but ive finally tracked down and killed the last BSOD issue in my new hardware. You should think that when you spend a small fortune on a gfx card it would come with working drivers but aparently thats not the case. Not only does the Nvidia drivers for chipsets 6800 and above cause BSOD's quite consistently the enhanced asus drivers for my specific card causes theyr own BSOD crashes aswell.

ive got same setup as above except intel 6600 dual core.

If you think the drivers for the 8800 are bad for XP you should see the shit weve been given for Vista :(

I tryed the vista ones emidiately had to reisntall xp cus vista + 8800 drivers killed all my games. Granted i only had vista beta 2 though.

Oh and CDM the 8800 is the newest gfx card on the market with the GTX version being the most powerfull card ever produced plus you can clip 3 GTX cards or 2 GTS cards together in one machine. The card you linked is barely worthy of licking mines boots tbh. Within the next 2-3 years where gunna see new DirectX 10 games come out aswell witch curently the 8800 is the only card on the market cabable of runing.

Happy dayes :P. Ive gotten my hands on and cracked a full version of vista DK localization. Installed the vista drivers for my gfx card and it performs briliantly. I just need some more RAM cus vista while idling and with Aero interface turned on eats up 370 megs of ram and 410 with earo turned on. And thats when im just siting in the desktop watching the built in ram monitor mind you.

I can zip the one i used and put it in an msn sharing folder for you. You still need to download and burn the vista disk though.
