In some of the earlier videos, they show avatars walking around inside the stations. They won't be available at launch but I believe they said avatars were in their long-range plans. Whether that means just walking around or combat is unclear.

I'll probably try it at launch but from what I've been able to dig up, it's looking like another almost entirely instanced, lobby-based MMOG. And, in my opinion, the whole item shop business model is going to foster a nasty community and just generally blow.

Is this going to be another "get people to pay for the beta" release-before-ready game, with all the "won't be available at launch" long-range plans?

On the positive side, I gave up watching prerelease promo videos of games, so I don't get disappointed by the reality.

Nah, not Black Prophecy. In an interview released this week from Gamescom, they said the current limit for missions is 10 vs 10. They did say that number wasn't final but still. Oh, and of course it's all instanced.

On the other hand, Jumpgate Evolution has confirmed ZERO INSTANCES and persistent zones capable of hosting 300+.

PS Next is not scrapped and that's been officially confirmed; however, I'm sure SOE will screw it up royally.

I've been playing a bit of PS1 again lately...the only game I keep going back to.

EVE has been out for 7 years and is only just getting player avatars. Keeping in mind that CCP has a signifigantly better track record than KK i wouldnt get my hopes up.

As for groundside combat, its a pipedream. To fully flesh out both parts would be too costly and time consuming for your average studio, so youd end up sacrificing dvelopment on one to improve upon the other. Or, as is the case with star trek online, youll get a game that feels incredibly shallow as both sides of the game gets dumbed down eanough to make it feasible.
