Re: MegaUpload Down
Some insights over at ars technica into Why the feds smashed Megaupload
Apparently the feds are being goaded and cheered on from the sidelines by RIAA & Universal Music Group who got their panties in a twist over this advertisement by Megaupload.
UMG was accused of abusing the DMCA takedown process to effectively censor the add, which did not contain any content owned or created by them.

Re: MegaUpload Down
Filesonic/server/jungle and a few others just hit the hay, disabling downloads of any files you havn't uploaded yourself.
Which does suck as I can't really use torrents and has a Filesonic subscription. I don't pirate games/movies etc. I go to the cinema, and I buy games. It's just TV shows here are often very delayed vs the US. And I don't want to pay extra just to watch my shows in HD...

Not used that for years, since one of my first broadband providers used to give free newsgroup access.satransisuu wrote:Usernet is still around
So, how the hell does this crap defy the laws of computer physics and download faster than my internet?
Even the router is counting files coming in that fast but my connection is limited to 650/700 at a push :/

Without any more pirates on the net blocking the tubes things run much faster.

Yea, the vpn must be why. Still weird for it to download faster than my line is capable of. This thing shall be nice once my 40Mb line arrives in 3 weeks
Re: MegaUpload Down
I suspect or know you are being snide and sarcastic heheh, but actually, yeah, my Internet and that of my work has been faster the past week or so. No, I am not kidding. Not night and day but faster nonethless. I still call BS for what the feds are doing to the site though.satransisuu wrote:Without any more pirates on the net blocking the tubes things run much faster.

I don't, not really.
Most filehosts are the same yes, but they don't ignore requests to take down copyrighted files.
IF the accusations are true, and I've no idea if they are. They where ignoring requests to take down content & laundering cash then they deserve to be taken down... Not by an american task force though. Should have been handled by the country the servers where mainly based in, or where the owner lived. Not sure if you've all been following the UK Extradition crap at the moment but it's getting to be a bit of a joke with the US Goverment owning dominion over the internet.

Well its definitely 100% BS, most of its due to those BS bills they tried to pass that were drafted by people who claimed to never have used the internet (But of course were really drafted by companies wanting to crush all competition from smaller companies who use sites like these to get people listening to their songs).

Re: MegaUpload Down
You know me to well Vaeyn That being said I doubt you can correlate your improved speeds over the past weeks to anything. I would argue that a crack down on spam would have a greater improvement to the health of the internet than anti-filesharing

Re: MegaUpload Down
My speed limitations are due to hardware limits of old degrading copper wire lines...
Re: MegaUpload Down
That too, or more so, yeah. There has been some reduction in that though thankfully I get little. There is just one place that seems to have my email address and hits me every day about the same time with almost the same 3-6 emails. :\satransisuu wrote:You know me to well Vaeyn That being said I doubt you can correlate your improved speeds over the past weeks to anything.
