I went to the website and did the speed test which it said I passed. I'm supposed to run it again in a few days and if I pass again then I could be selected for the field test.play the future now

Ill remain cynical of any gaming on demand system that works like this. Was it not 2 years ago people were talking about the "Phantom Game System" which worked similar? If i remember correctly there were other systems before that which also worked similar. I would rather have CDs and my own system. If they could do something like gametap with more modern games i would sign up quick.

Ideas are great like this for strict parenting.satransisuu wrote:Ill remain cynical of any gaming on demand system that works like this. WoW have a great system in which parents can log into there accounts and make it so you can ONLY login at certain times.
It's a great parental lock system... hmmm we should tell Randys folks

Parents do not need special devices to do parenting, hell the xbox and ps3 could easily have parental controls to allow them to only be played "at certain times", or you could be like my parents and take the power cables and put them in a safe when the child is grounded.
Technology loves to visit old ideas and this seems to me to be a visit back to the thin client systems. I have been seeing this in many of the organizations i have been working for lately. Personally for my home gaming i would rather have the information on my PC itself. If the game is obtained through a cd or some kind of client such as steam, i want the game on my PC.

Re: OnLive: The End of Games Platforms?
It would kill off a major part of modding communities if games were released like this. Unfortunately It would be very attractive to publishers as a form of anti piracy device. If the game files aren't on your hard drive you cant crack them.
If this takes off we may well see a lot of games being released exclusively to On-live.

I really liked the idea of cod:mw2, never played a cod game before so maybe it was all the hype. But, games like this css/gmod/dod/tf2 etc have to be moddable for my interest to be kept over a few days.Solid Rock wrote:It would kill off a major part of modding communities if games were released like this. Honestly, custom maps is a must.
Mods is damn close second.

Re: OnLive: The End of Games Platforms?
Most of those games in fact started out as mods at some point. Making mods would be more or less the same but when the individual user doesn't have access to the games files distributing them suddenly becomes much harder, and will potentially mean that what few mods do surface will no longer be freeware.Pantho wrote:I really liked the idea of cod:mw2, never played a cod game before so maybe it was all the hype. Re: OnLive: The End of Games Platforms?
ok, so after being accepted into beta in early january i finally installed and tried out a few games last nite/this mornin. i must say, i was playing burnout paradise and it runs just like a console. for a game as fast paced as that there was no lag at all. they have crysis and like 10 other games as well. this might not be a bad thing lol if all the games run as smoothly as the ones i tested and they keep getting a nice stream of new games, sony, nintendo ect will have their hands full
I R ALPHA!!!! or in other words H.N.I.C...... if ya didn't know, betta axe sumbodeh!
