If valve ever gets off their arses and finish it. Last I heard they weren't even working on it. Whatever happened to short and frequently released episodes?

yea yea yea, every one heard that bitching comment before. I honestly wish they never even talked about it. First people to talk about episodic content (that i heard of) was ritual with their new sin game but they went out of business. Sam and Max has done a good job at doing it though. I have never been disapointed with any valve game and i dont think Ep.3 will be any different. Valve is like Blizzard in that respect, both companies take forever but no game is ever bad.

Mind you a lot of other companies manage to make equally good games and keep their deadlines. For 2-3 year development time for each episode they should be a good deal longer than they are. I don't really care how good the games are when they finally get released but 3 years of development time for what likely going be no more than 2-3 hours of playtime should not be acceptable. Valve is spending too much time resting on their laurels and fapping about these days.

The difference between Blizzard and Valve is that Blizzard is making full games while Valve is supposed to be coming out with episodic content (concerning Half-Life). Which, by it's very definition, means they come out with more of them considering they're shorter. So far... they suck at that.

there is no arguing that they suck at making episodic content, they should just stop calling it that. As for it not being acceptable, don't buy their product if you don't find it acceptable. It is as simple as that. There are plenty of games to keep me busy so i can wait for them to make good stuff. I mean lets be honest, are you really not going to buy the new half life when it comes out?

You can stop calling it episodic content, but it would still be episodic content. I wouldn't mind if they'd spend a couple of years making a good expansion but a 3 hour mission pack? If they didn't have steam to sustain them they'd been bankrupt by now. Yes I likely will buy episode 3 when it comes out sometime next year, it will most likely be pretty good, but look at it this way: If you hired a carpenter to build you a house you'd expect him to be done within 6 months time, if he then went on to spend 2 years on it you'd still live in it and appreciate the craftsmanship. But it doesn't change the fact that if you'd hired the other guy you'd had a house that was just as good, and you wouldn't have had to freeze for 18 months.

The fact that they do a good job does not excuse the fact that they are pissing on their fans by spending far more time in development than is necessary. We often curse publishers like EA and Take-Two for rushing games but if the only alternative is this outrages inefficiency I think I can live with them.

I doubt anything like that will actually be necessary, it may take as long to make as an entirely new game but its still only an episodic expansion. The requirements will only be marginally higher than Half-Life 2's.
