Fingers crossed they make it actually worth a monthly subscription or make it F2P like several other big games coming out soon.

Re: PlanetSide Next - March 2011?
Definitely sounds good, but if its coming out in march wouldn't it be about time we heard something more substantial about it?

Like I'm trying not to get all hyped about it, but I can't help but get all hyped about it. Is anyone at that level of anticipation yet?

Re: PlanetSide Next - March 2011?
I do believe he misspoke or was misquoted. I was digging through the interwebs yesterday and sadly did not record the source, but one of the OTHER devs has confirmed that PlanetSide Next is indeed soon to be out, but i believe the BETA is what's going to start in March, NOT the release of the actual game. Still though, skeptical as nothing official has been released.
EDIT: In any case, I'm hyped about it. Planetside is still the only game I believe can TRULY claim to be an MMOFPS, due to the ginormous persistent battlefield. (you can be an MMO if you have persistent elements in your game, but you can't be an MMOFPS or MMORPG unless your FPS or RPG part of the game is actually massive and semi-persistent.

Pretty sure Neocron is a true mmofps and perhaps the first, unsure about the first part. I know alot of companies claim to be the first, I also know a few of these released after NC2 which makes me chuckle.MedicDude wrote:I do believe he misspoke or was misquoted. Re: PlanetSide Next - March 2011?
All depends on the definition of FPS, NC still depended very heavily on skill based hit/miss calculations. That is, most projectile deviation was down to an unlucky dice throw. Whereas in most FPS games projectile deviation is dependant on ballistic simulation and as such is completely independent of player statistics.Pantho wrote:Pretty sure Neocron is a true mmofps and perhaps the first, unsure about the first part. The only time aiming had any real impact in Neocron was in determining which body part received the most damage.

The main factor in the hit/miss dice roll was your reticle. Like most FPS games the steadier you are. Being able to "aim" better helped the reticle, by a lot. I'd class that as a fairly big step in being a true FPS. Of course hit skill changed the factors of how fast the reticle closed etc. It would be safe to say Neocron was the first true FPSMMORPG and probably the only one I've played that did it well. It had a closing reticle, hitboxes, needed to aim on the targets. I would call it an FPS if asked.

Re: PlanetSide Next - March 2011?
We all like to believe that NC was an FPS, and for the most part, it looked and felt like it. But I'm sure we all know that if you crouched, point-blank, with a CS in someone's face, 3/4 shots hit and the third randomly flies off. Yes, having the reticle on your target increased your chances of hitting them, but in the end, it was always up to the almighty digital-dice roll.

Even if it was ran by a bunch of retarded apes.
